Costs & Fees

What hiring us actually costs.

How much does it cost?

Nothing upfront. We are only paid a percentage of what we recover for you. Your consultation is free, and there is no obligation.

What does “no fees unless we win” really mean?

It means our fee is a percentage of what we recover for you. If we recover nothing, you owe us no attorney’s fee. We explain the exact percentage and how case costs are handled in writing before you sign anything, so there are no surprises at the end.

Who pays for the costs of building my case?

We advance them. Medical records, expert witnesses, crash reconstruction, depositions, filing fees. We front those costs so your case is built properly, and they are reimbursed out of the recovery, not out of your pocket along the way. We do not add interest to any cost.

Your Case

Whether you have a case, and what happens next.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Colorado, from the Front Range to the Western Slope and every community in between. We are also licensed in Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, and Iowa, and practice nationwide. So if your crash happened across a state line or you have since moved, we can often still handle your case. Not sure whether we can help? Just call and ask.

Do I really need a lawyer for my injury?

If your injuries required medical care, at least talk to one. Injury victims with attorneys consistently recover multiple times more than those without, even after fees, and insurers treat represented claimants differently from day one. We also handle the administration throughout your claim, so you are not chasing records, bills, and adjusters while you recover. Our goal is to increase what you actually take home, even after fees and costs.

How long will my case take?

Every case is different. Some take months, some take years. What we promise: you will always know where your case stands and the plan for next steps.

How much is my case worth?

A lawyer who gives you a number on the first call may be guessing. Value depends on your medical care and medical records, how your injuries affect your work and daily life, available insurance coverage, and how strong the liability evidence is. We build the full picture first, then tell you honestly what we think it is worth.

How long do I have to file a claim in Colorado?

Colorado deadlines are strict and vary by claim type. Motor vehicle cases, general negligence, and claims against government entities all run on different clocks, and some notice requirements are measured in months, not years. Call as soon as you can so a deadline never decides your case for you.

What if I was partly at fault?

You may still recover. Colorado follows modified comparative negligence, meaning your recovery is reduced by your share of fault, and you can recover as long as you were not more at fault than the other party. Insurers often overstate your share; that is an argument, not a fact.

What should I do right after a crash?

Get medical attention. Photograph the scene, vehicles, and your injuries. Get the other driver’s insurance information and any witness names. Do not give a recorded statement to the other insurer. Then call us to walk through what’s next.

Dealing With Insurers

The other side is already working. So are we.

The insurance company already made an offer. Should I take it?

Not before talking to a lawyer. First offers are almost always far below what a case is worth. One of our clients was offered $40,000 before a jury awarded her $4.5 million. Past results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Let us review it for free, and see our case results for what preparation changes.

Should I give the insurance adjuster a recorded statement?

Not without your attorney. Adjusters are trained to ask questions that minimize your injuries and your claim, and those recordings are used later. In our experience, a recorded statement usually hurts a claimant’s case rather than helps it. You are not required to give the other driver’s insurer a statement.

What if the driver who hit me had no insurance?

You may still have coverage. Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage on your own policy, medical payments coverage, and in some cases other responsible parties can all come into play. We find every source of coverage and recovery available to you.

What is insurance bad faith?

It is when your own insurer unreasonably delays, underpays, or denies a valid claim. Colorado law allows additional damages when an insurer acts in bad faith. Bad faith claims are a specialty of their own: not every personal injury attorney handles them, and our attorneys have developed focused experience in this area. See our insurance bad faith page.

Working With Us

Who you will actually be working with.

What happens at the free consultation?

You sit down and meet in person with a trial attorney, and we listen. You tell us what happened, we ask about your medical care and the insurance involved, and we tell you honestly whether we think you have a case and what your options are. It is free, confidential, and there is no obligation.

Will I talk to a real attorney?

Yes. A trial attorney reviews your case and will meet with you in person. You’ll also have a paralegal on your claim who is there to help along the way.

Will I work with the same attorney throughout my case?

Yes. We are a boutique firm by design. The attorney you start with stays with you through your entire claim, from the first meeting to the final resolution. Your case is not passed to a different attorney at each stage.

Can you come to me if I can’t travel?

Yes. If your injuries make travel difficult or your vehicle is out of commission, we will meet you at your home, at the hospital, or by video. Getting your case started should not cost you a recovery day.

Do you actually go to trial?

Yes. Even though an individual case has a low likelihood of going to trial, we prepare every case as if it will. We have a reputation for success at trial across the state and beyond.

Where do you practice?

We are based in Colorado with three offices: LoHi and South Denver in Denver, and one in Boulder. We are licensed in Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona, New Mexico, and Iowa, and practice nationwide. Addresses and directions are on our contact page.
